Frequently Asked Questions
1) What if something goes wrong with the system?
professional installation team will warranty their work for the first
90 days. After that our special offer will be under warranty for the
entire time you are an ADT customer!
2) I’ve heard you use old equipment like some other companies?
No,we use brand new equipment straight from the manufacturer. We will
not use refurbished equipment in your home.
3) Can my security system be turned off from the ADT offices?
No,
your security system may only be turned off from the control unit
located in your home. The only other option is to turn it off with
your remote keychain. This is because the ADT system is independent
from the ADT offices in terms of control
4) Why is there a delay before my security system sounds an alarm?
Each
security system, before activating an alarm, has a small delay period
of 30 seconds to three minutes. This may not sound very secure, but
this delay period allows the user to deactivate the alarm before ADT
is notified in case of false alarm activation. This helps ADT to
focus more on real alarm situations, instead of responding to every
alarm triggering
5) What does ‘not ready’ mean when it is displayed on the keypad?
Not
ready’ means that your security system is not armed and so it
is letting you know that there is a problem. It may be for many
reasons, but some common reasons include problems with the contact
points, such as not closing a window or door completely or there may
be movement that is setting off the motion detector. As soon as that
is taken care of, the system will be armed again.
6) Does ADT test my system to make sure it is working properly?
ADT
does initiate regular communications testing to ensure that your
security system is communicating with the monitoring center
correctly, but it is up to you to make sure that your system is in
good working order in terms of equipment and accessories. If anything
appears to be malfunctioning or needs to be replaced for some reason
you should call ADT to let them know your security system will need
service
7) What if the power goes out at my home, will I still be protected?
Each
security system comes equipped with a backup battery supply that
switches on as soon as the power supplying the system is cut. This
means that even during outages the system will be monitoring for
burglars.
8) I accidentally set off my alarm, why didn’t ADT call me?
The
security system automatically initiates a delay period when an alarm
is tripped. It may last up to three minutes before the security
system notifies ADT of an emergency. This is so that in the case of
false alarms you can deactivate the alarm before it is sent to ADT.
9) Why is my motion sensor setting off false alarms?
Installation
is an important thing to consider here. If you have installed a
motion sensor above a heater of some kind it can set off your
security system. Also, some objects and actions may set off the
system, such as the movement of blinds or curtains or throwing an
object in the sensor’s range. ADT technicians can adjust the
sensor or you may consider moving the sensor to an alternative
location.
10) What happens when I use the panic or fire alarm button on the keypad?
If
you press the panic or fire alarm button for one to three minutes, an
alarm is instantly transmitted to an ADT monitoring center in order
to have emergency services dispatched to your home as soon as
possible. It is important to note that when sending an alarm using
this method; it cannot be canceled by conventional means.
11) Are there any benefits to me as a homeowner if I purchase ADT?
Having
an ADT-monitored home security system can save you money in more ways
than one. It may also qualify you to receive an additional 20%
discount on your homeowner’s insurance because you are
displaying that you have an extra level of protection in your home.
Certain restrictions may apply, please speak with an ADT
representative for more information
12) Why does it cost so much for monitoring?
In
order to monitor your home 24 hours a day, many technological
advances are employed in order to secure your home as much as
possible. The monitoring agreement may seem like a lot of money at
first glance, but when considering the value of home safety and
protection, it is not much at all! Your home will be protected with
the highest standards of equipment and monitoring security, so it
does need funding to provide that service to you.
13)
What is required to have the system installed?
- In
order to install an ADT security system, you MUST be the owner of
the property. If you are renting, call for special
instructions and requirements.
- The
electricity needs to be on at the time of installation.
- The
security system requires a telephone landline.
14)
What kind of guarantee do you offer?
You’ll
receive a Theft Protection Certificate when your system is
installed. If you experience property loss as the result of a
burglary while your ADT system is in service, you can present the
Theft Protection Certificate to ADT, and you are eligible to
receive a reimbursement of up to $500 of your homeowner’s
insurance deductible. ADT requires that certain conditions must be
satisfied. Call 1-877-617-4238.
15)
How do I avoid a false alarm?
Some
police departments charge for having to respond to multiple false
alarms. To avoid false alarms:
- Check
that all windows and doors are closed and locked before turning the
alarm system on.
- Test
your security system at least once a month and report any problems
to ADT right away.
- Keep
your password and account information in a safe place that the whole
family can find if the alarm is set off accidentally
